What's different about an Los Gatos install

Local work, directly accountable.

You talk to the owner. The owner runs your install — no subcontractors, no finger-pointing.

01

Local company.

Based in Santa Clara, serving Los Gatos daily. Understanding of both valley and mountain HVAC needs.

02

Foothills experience.

EVS has experience with hillside installations, crawlspace ductwork, and the longer heating seasons in the Los Gatos mountains.

03

Real load calculations.

Proper sizing matters even more in Los Gatos varied climate zones.

04

Permits handled.

EVS manages the full permit process with the Town of Los Gatos.

05

Owner-operated, no middlemen.

Euler Vargas oversees every install — you work with the owner, not a sales rep or a call center. The team that quotes the job is the team that does the work.

06

Multi-brand, not locked to one.

We carry Carrier, Bryant, Goodman, Daikin, Lennox, Mitsubishi, Bosch, and Fujitsu — and we're not factory-authorized to push any single one. You get the unit that fits your home and budget, not the one a dealer is incentivized to sell.

07

No warranty or maintenance lock-in.

Your equipment warranty stays the manufacturer's warranty — it doesn't disappear if you skip a recurring maintenance contract. We offer maintenance because it extends the life of your system, not as the price of keeping your coverage.

08

Final quote is the price you pay.

No add-ons, no upselling on equipment you don't need. We're not a sales company — we're the ones who actually do the work.

09

We take the jobs others won't.

Full responsibility from design to installation, including the difficult ones other companies pass on. We support on-budget work for churches, veterans' facilities, and charities.

Why Los Gatos is different

What changes an HVAC decision in Los Gatos.

01

Neighborhoods we serve

Downtown Los Gatos, East Los Gatos (Blossom Hill area), West Los Gatos, Los Gatos Mountains (summit area), Los Gatos Hills, Almond Grove, Belgatos, and surrounding areas.

02

Local climate

Mediterranean, but split between valley floor and hills — summer highs in the 80s to 90s in the valley and cooler in the hills, with a longer heating season in the mountains. The housing stock *and* the topography drive HVAC here.

03

Housing & local context

Downtown Los Gatos, Vasona Lake, and Highway 17/9. Housing spans National Register historic districts through post-war ranch to wooded mountain cabins.

04

Permits & compliance

All HVAC installations require permits through the Town of Los Gatos Building Division. EVS handles all permit applications and scheduling.

05

Utility programs

Los Gatos homes get electricity from Silicon Valley Clean Energy (SVCE) (generation, default since 2017) delivered over PG&E lines, with PG&E for natural gas in town — one PG&E bill. Some mountain pockets use propane (no PG&E gas main), so we confirm per address. Where SVCE/PG&E serve, heat-pump and high-efficiency AC upgrades can stack SVCE rebates, PG&E efficiency programs; programs stack and change, so we walk through what applies during the estimate.

01 / 05

Housing stock in Los Gatos

What your home's age means for your HVAC.

Los Gatos has five National Register historic districts plus post-war ranch and wooded hillside stock. The stock and slope drive the system:

01

Historic districts (Almond Grove, Broadway, Fairview Plaza, University-Edelen, Downtown — National Register–listed).

Late-1800s to early-1900s Victorians, Queen Anne, and Craftsman homes; anything predating 1941 is treated as potentially historic, so exterior condenser placement, line-set routing, and roof penetrations can trigger design/CEQA review.

02

Post-war ranch (Rinconada/Vasona, Blossom Hill/Blossom Manor/Shannon, east foothills Belwood/Belgatos).

Conventional ducted heat-pump conversion is feasible, with 100–200A panels depending on era.

03

Hillside & mountain (HR-1/HR-2.5 districts, Chemeketa Park, Lexington Hills, Redwood Estates).

Steep grades, private roads, and geologic-hazard rules; more than half of hillside Los Gatos is in the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone (defensible-space and structure-hardening requirements). Some mountain pockets rely on propane and private wells (no gas main) — we confirm per address.

What Los Gatos homeowners ask

HVAC in Los Gatos

A ducted heat pump (1.5–3 tons) for an average Los Gatos home starts at $5,000; ductless mini-split systems are priced separately by zone, starting around $1,900 per zone. The final number depends on whether it's ducted or ductless, the brand (Carrier, Mitsubishi, Daikin, Bosch, Lennox), and whether we're converting a gas furnace to a full electric heat pump — an electrical panel upgrade or new ductwork adds to the total, a direct one-to-one swap keeps it down. We run a Manual J load calculation so the system is sized to your home, and the written quote is the price you pay — no upselling on things you don't need.

Yes. We run same-day AC repair across Los Gatos for cooling failures, warm-air issues, refrigerant leaks, and frozen coils. A real customer called us at 10am, we were at his house by 11am, and the failed system was installed by 4pm. Call (408) 300-8254 if your AC is out in Los Gatos.

Yes — downtown Los Gatos, Almond Grove, Rinconada Hills, and the mountain communities like Aldercroft Heights. Mountain areas can see more PG&E power shutoffs (PSPS) during fire season, so we can discuss heat pump plus battery backup options that keep heating and cooling running through outages.

Yes — light commercial HVAC installation, repair, and maintenance in Los Gatos, including small offices, retail, restaurants, and multi-tenant buildings along Los Gatos Boulevard and downtown. We're a family-run, licensed contractor (CA #1089826) that treats small commercial work with the same owner-on-every-job accountability as residential.

AC replacement in Los Gatos starts at $4,800 for an average home — the final number depends on the system, brand, and whether your home needs an electrical panel upgrade or ductwork changes; a direct one-to-one swap with easy access keeps it down, a panel upgrade or ductwork changes add to it. We do a Manual J load calculation so the new system is sized to your home, and the written quote is the price you pay.

Yes. Los Gatos homes are served by PG&E, and heat pump and high-efficiency HVAC upgrades can qualify for TECH Clean California incentives. For mountain-area homes, a heat pump also pairs with battery backup for PSPS resilience.

Yes — HVAC installations and replacements in Los Gatos require a permit through the Town of Los Gatos Building Division, and EVS pulls the permit and schedules the inspection as part of every job. You don't deal with the town.

I called EVS Mechanical at 8:45 pm during a heat wave where the temperature reached 104 degrees in Los Gatos. They were able to get appointment for 10:00 am the following day. The fact that they were so busy with the heat wave was amazing customer service. Euler Vargas who is the owner, called me right on time at 9:45 am and arrived just on time. He fixed the issue very quickly. He and his assistant were very polite. I highly recommend EVS to anyone who is looking for a great HVAC contractor!
