AC installation in Santa Clara and the Bay Area — EVS Mechanical is owner-run; the owner oversees every install with no subcontractors, so a callback reaches the person who did the work, not a dispatch line. Central AC from Carrier, Bryant, Daikin, Lennox, and Goodman, with a real load calculation, permit handling, and old unit removal. Call (408) 300-8254 for a free estimate.

What Is AC Installation?

AC installation means having a new central air conditioning system professionally installed in your home. This includes removing the old system (if applicable), installing the outdoor condenser unit and indoor evaporator coil, connecting refrigerant lines, electrical hookup, and testing the system for proper operation and efficiency.

When to call about yours:

  • Your AC is more than 10-15 years old
  • Cooling bills are rising
  • Your current system doesn't cool evenly
  • You're buying a home without AC
  • You want to upgrade to a higher SEER rating for efficiency
  • You're already replacing your furnace and want to bundle

Who this is for: Homeowners in Santa Clara, San Jose, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, Palo Alto, Los Gatos, Santa Cruz, Cupertino, Campbell, Saratoga, Los Altos, and Milpitas. Residential and light commercial.

What you get from an EVS install

Owner-run, no subcontractors.

Euler Vargas oversees every install in person. If something needs a callback after the job, you talk to the owner who did the work — not a dispatch queue or a third party.

Real load calculations.

We size your AC to your home — not to square footage averages. A properly sized system dehumidifies better, runs more efficiently, and lasts longer.

Permits handled.

Every Bay Area city requires permits for AC installation. EVS pulls the permit, schedules the inspection, manages the paperwork.

Old unit removal included.

We haul away your old condenser and coil. No extra charge.

1-2 hour callback.

Call (408) 300-8254. We call back within 2 hours.

Bundle with furnace replacement.

If you need both, a combined installation saves on labor and coordination.

I had a great experience with EVS. They responded quickly, came out on a Saturday for the initial visit, provided a quote, and had both furnaces installed by Monday. Their pricing was very competitive, and the installation was completed professionally with clean workmanship. They also inspected my 19-year-old AC unit and identified a wiring issue. Although the repair required additional work, they followed up promptly and completed the necessary repairs. Throughout the process, they were easy to work with, flexible, and responsive, even when appointments needed to be rescheduled at the last minute. One thing I particularly appreciated was their effort to install a new thermostat signal wire without cutting into any walls, which saved additional repair work and hassle. Overall, EVS provided excellent service, fair pricing, and quality workmanship. I would gladly recommend them.

We had a complicated upgraded heating and new A/C install due to the floor plan of our home. Euler and his team of technicians accomplished both beyond our expectations. Their quote was very competitive and the warranty unbeatable. Euler is both a gentleman and a man of his word standing by his workmanship and factory warranty. When a small Carrier part failed Euler took care of the Carrier paperwork an cheerfully did the replacement as soon as the part arrived. …

AC installation

Having a new central air conditioning system professionally installed in your home, including removing the old system, installing the outdoor condenser unit and indoor evaporator coil, connecting refrigerant lines, electrical hookup, and testing.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most residential central AC installations take one day. Complex installations involving ductwork modifications or electrical panel upgrades may take 1-2 days.

For Bay Area homes, 14-16 SEER is the sweet spot for most budgets. Higher SEER (18-21) saves more on electricity but has a higher upfront cost. California's Title 24 energy code sets minimum efficiency requirements — your new system will meet or exceed them.

Yes. Santa Clara, San Jose, Sunnyvale, and all Bay Area cities require permits for AC installation. EVS handles this.

Yes. If you need both, a bundle saves on labor, coordination, and often on equipment pricing. We can quote the full HVAC package.

A properly installed and maintained central AC system typically lasts 12-15 years. Regular annual maintenance extends lifespan. The outdoor condenser is usually the first component to need replacement.

Yes. If your home doesn't have ductwork or you're cooling a specific addition or room, a mini split ductless system is often the better choice. We install both central AC and ductless systems. See our mini split page for details.

EVS Mechanical installs Carrier, Bryant, Daikin, Lennox, and Goodman central AC systems.

Yes. We provide ongoing maintenance and repair for every system we install. Local service team — not a warranty call center.

Portable AC units can cool small rooms (150-250 sq ft) but struggle with larger spaces, Bay Area heat, or poor insulation. They're less efficient than window units or central AC, and the exhaust hose leaks warm air back into the room. For reliable whole-home cooling, central AC or mini splits are better long-term investments.

Watch for: warm air from vents, weak airflow, unusual noises (grinding, squealing), higher energy bills without usage change, moisture or leaks around the unit, bad smells from vents, or the system cycling on/off frequently. Any of these signs means call EVS for a diagnostic — catching issues early prevents expensive breakdowns.

1. Turn off your AC system at the thermostat. 2. Locate the filter (usually behind the return air vent or in the air handler). 3. Remove the filter and check if it's disposable or reusable. 4. If disposable, replace it with a new one (same size). If reusable, vacuum both sides or rinse with water and let dry completely. 5. Reinstall and turn the system back on. Clean or replace every 1-3 months during cooling season.

You can rinse reusable filters with water, but never spray water directly into the AC unit or electrical components. For outdoor condenser cleaning, turn off power first, gently spray the fins from inside-out to remove debris, and avoid bending the delicate fins. For deep cleaning, call EVS — improper DIY cleaning can damage components or void warranties.

Call for emergency service if: your AC fails during a Bay Area heat wave (95°F+), you smell burning or electrical odors, you hear loud metal-on-metal grinding, the breaker trips repeatedly, or you see smoke. Non-emergency issues (reduced cooling, higher bills) can wait for regular business hours. EVS prioritizes same-day emergency service during heat waves.

Bay Area AC issues include: refrigerant leaks (causes warm air), clogged condensate drains (moisture buildup), dirty evaporator coils (reduced cooling), undersized systems for valley heat (San Jose, Cupertino), oversized systems for fog belt homes (no dehumidification), and electrical issues from old panels. Regular maintenance prevents most of these problems.

Repair if: the unit is under 8 years old, repair cost is less than 50% of replacement cost, and it's a single component failure. Replace if: the unit is 12+ years old, uses R-22 refrigerant (phased out), needs frequent repairs, or has a major component failure (compressor, condenser). EVS will give you an honest assessment — we do both repair and replacement.

Look for: California C-20 HVAC license (verify at cslb.ca.gov), local reviews on Google and Yelp, upfront pricing before work starts, proper insurance and bonding, and a real local address (not a call center). Ask about diagnostic fees, warranty on repairs, and response time. EVS offers 1-2 hour callbacks and transparent pricing — no hidden fees.

Bay Area Specifics

South Bay Valley Summers

San Jose, Santa Clara, Cupertino, Saratoga regularly hit 90-105°F. A properly sized AC system matters here more than anywhere. Too small won't keep up. Too large won't dehumidify and short-cycles.

Older Homes

Many pre-1950 Bay Area homes lack ductwork or have undersized ducts originally built for gravity furnaces. AC installation in these homes often requires ductwork modifications or a ductless alternative.

Fog Belt Homes

San Francisco, Daly City, Pacifica homes often don't need AC at all — but if you do, a smaller system (1.5-2 tons) is usually sufficient since cooling degree days are low.

PG&E and Electrical

Bay Area AC installations often require electrical panel evaluation. Older homes may need a panel upgrade to handle the additional load. EVS assesses this during the site visit and includes it in the quote.
